Wavelet Images. Mark Fischer, programmer and whale researcher, has adapted a mathematical algorithm known as wavelets to graph cetacean calls. He is mapping whale calls seeking underlying patterns, with the ultimate goal of exploring the potential for cetacean language. Each wavelet here represents between .25 to 1 second of time. The frequency spectrum is limited to the human audible range. These images have been displayed in art galleries in Europe and the USA. In 2005, Interspecies has successfully fundraised to grant a new computer system to Mark, allowing him to generate these images as high resolution movies. His art is printed on museum quality paper using archival inks.

Dolphin Communication Research
We are working towards this goal by using cutting-edge technology to:
Record dolphin sounds both above and below water in the broadest spectrum ever achieved.
Analyze these dolphin sounds for harmonic patterns and communication value.
Publish and share this research in scientific journals.

Dolphin Language Analysis - Our state-of-the-art digital recording capabilities allows us to capture the complete audio spectrum of dolphin vocalization and echolocation. Therefore we are scientifically assessing and analyzing dolphin vocalization and echolocation in ways that were impossible only a few years ago. Within these recordings we have discovered an astounding pattern of melodic modes which are unique to each dolphin and are equivalent to musical notes and chords. These dolphin "songs" are beautiful, yet, so complex that the human ear cannot decipher them without the aid of technology. To help the human ear make sense of these complex dolphin sounds, we have musicians play these musical patterns or "dolphin songs", which are available on our Dolphin Code CD.

We are also in the process of creating an innovative system of written notation for transcribing the unusual qualities inherent in the individual notes produced by dolphins.

Human definitions of language require speech (the signals we use), syntax (the structure we use), and semantics (the signals we use). Researchers must consider the possibility that dolphins may possess a language of tones, inflections, and timing found in languages like Chinese and the whistling language of the Silbo Gomera of the Canary Islands. We believe the discoveries that we have made point to the possibility of a robust language that developed on a different, but tangential, evolutionary path. It is quite possible that the human definition of "language" will have to broaden in order to encompass the dolphins' use of language.

Dolphins give themselves "names"—distinctive whistles that they use to identify each other, new research shows.Scientists say it's the first time wild animals have been shown to call out their own names.
What's more, the marine mammals can recognize individual names even when the sound is produced by an unfamiliar voice.

LANGUAGE RESEARCH (1978-1984) :
Language work with dolphins began at the Institute for Delphinid Research (now Dolphin Research Center) in 1978. The objective was to investigate the possibility of training language-like behaviors to dolphins. Language was defined as consisting of two levels: the naming of objects, and syntax. Syntax refers to the importance of word order when putting nouns with verbs.

An acoustic language using whistles was utlilized. The dolphins were taught that different whistles represented different objects or actions. The whistle language was digitized by a computer and could be produced through an underwater loudspeaker. A juvenile male dolphin named Natua learned four nouns and three verbs. Once Natua understood the words (whistles) for the objects and actions, he was presented with a two-word sentence. When presented with his first combination, the whistles for "towel"/"over", he understood immediately and jumped over the towel in the water. Natua went on to learn a number of two-word combinations such as rock retrieve, towel under, etc. Lack of funding ended this project, but the following year, a television reporter came to cover the story. Natua was given all the different combinations he had learned a year before and responded correctly to almost all of the sequences, indicative of long term memory in dolphins.

Dr. Kathleen Dudzinski has been studying dolphin behavior and communication since 1990 with a focus on tactile, behavioral and acoustic signals employed by dolphins as they share information with each other and across groups. Dr. Dudzinski is Director of the Dolphin Communication Project (DCP), conducts research on three groups of dolphins in both captive and wild environments, and oversees research conducted by graduate students from five universities who collaborate with DCP. Students focus on the behavior, acoustics and communication among and between dolphins residing at four locations around the globe: two wild dolphin populations near (Atlantic spotted dolphins) Bimini, The Bahamas and (Indo-Pacific bottlenose dolphins) Mikura Island , Japan and two groups of dolphins in human care (both bottlenose dolphins) at the Roatan Institute for Marine Sciences (RIMS), Anthony’s Key Resort, Roatan, Honduras and at Dolphin Encounters , Nassau, The Bahamas.

This work presents a description of behaviors and vocalizations of free-ranging Atlantic spotted dolphins (Stenella frontalis) in Bahamian waters. The objective is to elucidate mechanisms of intraspecific communication in these dolphins by interpretation of associations between vocal structures, social context, and observed behaviors. The ultimate goal is to evaluate communication and behavior of spotted dolphins in order to eventually understand how an aquatic mammal's sensory abilities permit it to adapt to an environment foreign to terrestrial mammals. While this work does not yield the Rosetta stone to dolphin communication, it does provide a beginning description of associations among their intraspecific interactions, behaviors, and vocalizations.

SOLAR BLAST: No sunspots? No problem. On April 26th the blank sun unleashed a solar flare without the usual aid of a sunspot. At 1408 UT, Earth-orbiting satellites detected a surge of X-rays registering B3.8 on the Richter scale of solar flares. Shortly thereafter, SOHO coronagraphs recorded a coronal mass ejection (CME) billowing away from the sun:

The expanding cloud could deliver a glancing blow to Earth's magnetic field late on April 28th or 29th. High-latitude sky watchers should be alert for auroras when it arrives.

This strange solar flare came from a patch of sun (N08,E08) where magnetic fields were not intense enough to form a visible sunspot (sunspots are made of magnetism). Nevertheless, magnetic fields were present with sufficient energy and instability to produce a powerful explosion. NASA's twin STEREO spacecraft, observing the sun from widely separated vantage points, recorded a million mph shock wave or "solar tsunami" spreading from the blast site through the sun's atmosphere: movie.

The IPCC model simulation archive

In the lead up to the 4th Assessment Report, all the main climate modelling groups (17 of them at last count) made a series of coordinated simulations for the 20th Century and various scenarios for the future. All of this output is publicly available in the PCMDI IPCC AR4 archive (now officially called the CMIP3 archive, in recognition of the two previous, though less comprehensive, collections). We've mentioned this archive before in passing, but we've never really discussed what it is, how it came to be, how it is being used and how it is (or should be) radically transforming the comparisons of model output and observational data.

The greatest threat of climate change for human beings, I believe, lies in the potential destabilization of the massive ice sheets in Greenland and Antarctica. As with the extinction of species, the disintegration of ice sheets is irreversible for practical purposes. Our children, grandchildren, and many more generations will bear the consequences of choices that we make in the next few years.

The level of the sea throughout the globe is a reflection primarily of changes in the volume of ice sheets and thus of changes of global temperature. When the planet cools, ice sheets grow on continents and the sea level falls. Conversely, when the Earth warms, ice melts and the sea level rises. In Field Notes from a Catastrophe, Elizabeth Kolbert reports on the work of researchers trying to understand the acceleration of melting, and in his new book and film An Inconvenient Truth, Al Gore graphically illustrates possible effects of a rising sea level on Florida and other locations.

Ice sheets waxed and waned as the Earth cooled and warmed over the past 500,000 years. During the coldest ice ages, the Earth's average temperature was about ten degrees Fahrenheit colder than today. So much water was locked in the largest ice sheet, more than a mile thick and covering most of Canada and northern parts of the United States, that the sea level was 400 feet lower than today. The warmest interglacial periods were about two degrees Fahrenheit warmer than today and the sea level was as much as sixteen feet higher.

A German physicist and founder of the International Institute of Biophysics in Neuss, Germany, credited with the discovery of biophoton emissions – tiny currents of light emanating from living things.
Frontier scientists around the globe have discovered evidence of the existence of a quantum energy field. The field may not only explain homoeopathy, but may be the main force we have to tap in order to heal.

Fritz-Albert Popp thought he had discovered a cure for cancer. It was 1970, and Popp, a theoretical biophysicist at the University of Marburg in Germany, had been teaching radiology - the interaction of electromagnetic (EM) radiation on biological systems. He’d been examining benzo[a]pyrene, a polycyclic hydrocarbon known to be one of the most lethal carcinogens to humans, and had illuminated it with ultraviolet (UV) light.

These ‘biophoton emissions’, as Popp called them, provided an ideal communication system for the transfer of information to many cells across the organism. But the single most important question remained: where was the light coming from?

A particularly gifted student talked him into another experiment. It is known that when ethidium bromide is applied to samples of DNA, it insinuates itself in between the base pairs of the double helix, causing DNA to unwind. The student suggested that, after applying the chemical, they measure the light coming from the sample. Popp found that the greater the concentration of ethidium, the more the DNA unravelled, but also the stronger the intensity of light. Conversely, the less he used, the less light was emitted.

He also found that DNA could send out a wide range of frequencies, some of which seemed to be linked to certain functions. If DNA stored this light, it would naturally emit more light on being unzipped.

These and other studies proved to Popp that one of the most essential sources of light and biophoton emissions was DNA. DNA was like the master tuning fork of the body. It would strike a particular frequency and certain molecules would follow...

With biophoton emissions, Popp believed he had an answer to the question of morphogenesis as well as Gestaltbildung - cell coordination and communication - which could only occur in a holistic system with one central orchestrator. Popp showed in his experiments that these weak light emissions were sufficient to orchestrate the body. The emissions had to be low intensity because these communications took place on a quantum level, and higher intensities would have an effect only in the world of the large.

So far, Popp had studied only healthy individuals and found an exquisite coherence at the quantum level. But what kind of light is present in those who are ill? He tried out his machine on a series of cancer patients. In every instance, these patients had lost those natural periodic rhythms as well as their coherence. The lines of internal communication were scrambled. They had lost their connection with the world. In effect, their light was going out.

All these phenomena led Popp to think of biophoton emissions as a sort of correction by a living system of Zero Point Field fluctuations (see box, p 1). Every system likes to achieve a minimum of free energy. In a perfect world, all waves would cancel each other out by destructive interference. However, this is impossible with the Zero Point Field, where these tiny fluctuations of energy constantly disturb the system. Emitting photons is a compensatory gesture to stop this disturbance and attempt a sort of energy equilibrium. As Popp thought of it, the Zero Point Field forces a human being to be a candle. The healthiest body would have the lowest light and be closest to a zero state, the most desirable state - the closest a living thing could get to nothingness.

Popp now recognised that what he’d been experimenting with was even more than a cure for cancer or Gestaltbildung. Here was a model which provided a better explanation than the current neo-Darwinist theory for how all living things evolve on the planet. Rather than a system of fortunate but ultimately random error, if DNA uses frequencies of every variety as an information tool, this suggests instead a feedback system of perfect communication through waves that encode and transfer information.

He went on to use biophoton emissions as a tool for measuring the quality of food. The healthiest food had the lowest and most coherent intensity of light. Any disturbance in the system increased the production of photons. Health was a state of perfect subatomic communication, and ill health was a state of communication breakdown. We are ill when our waves are out of synch.

It took some 25 years for Popp to gather converts from among the scientific community. Slowly, a few select scientists around the globe began to consider that the body’s communication system might be a complex network of resonance and frequency. Eventually, they would form the International Institute of Biophysics, composed of 15 groups of scientists from international centres around the world.

Thus, it dawned on Popp that these emissions had a purpose outside of the body. Wave resonance wasn’t only being used to communicate inside the body, but between living things as well. Two healthy beings engaged in ‘photon sucking’, as he called it, by exchanging photons. Popp realised that this exchange might unlock the secret of some of the animal kingdom’s most persistent conundrums: how schools of fish or flocks of birds create perfect and instantaneous coordination. Many experiments on the homing ability of animals demonstrate that it has nothing to do with following habitual trails, scents or even the EM fields of the earth, but rather some form of silent communication that acts like an invisible rubber band, even when the animals are separated by miles of distance.

The VERITAS Research Program of the Laboratory for Advances in Consciousness and Health
(formerly the Human Energy Systems Laboratory) in the Department of Psychology at the University of Arizona was created primarily to test the hypothesis that the consciousness (or personality or identity) of a person survives physical death.

In January of 2008, the VERITAS Research Program, as it existed prior to 2008, was closed and the research was expanded into a broader, more comprehensive, spiritual communication project named the SOPHIA Research Program. In June, 2006, funding was obtained to create the SOPHIA Research Program, directed by Dr. Gary Schwartz.
The SOPHIA Research Program investigates claims of communication processes involving various spiritual levels, from deceased individuals, through guides and angels, to purported communication with a higher power or divinity. Its focus is on healing and life-enhancement. The IRB research approval process was completed in the summer of 2007 for the first major experiment. Keynote: Memory and Morphic Resonance

According to the hypothesis of formative causation, all self-organizing systems, including crystals, organisms and societies are organized by morphic fields containing an inherent memory, given by a process called morphic resonance from previous similar systems. Nature is not governed by fixed laws but by habits. By this process, all human beings draw upon a collective human memory, similar to Jung’s collective unconscious, and in turn contribute to it. Our minds seem to extend far beyond our brains. Recent experimental results show that people can influence others at a distance just by looking at them, even when all normal sensory clues are eliminated. The mind reaches out to touch the focus of its attention. Rupert suggests that this happens through mental fields. Such fields are also involved in the projection of intentions, which can be detected telepathically at a distance, as shown in experiments with dogs that know when their owners are coming home, and on people's ability to anticipate who is about to call. The first stage, the rise of modern materialistic science, is one of the most important evolutionary leaps in human history. Its essence embodies a remarkable proposition, namely that knowledge of the objective sense-perceived world should not be based on religious or traditional authority, nor the guarded property of an elite priesthood, but should be empirically based and publicly verifiable, open and free to all. ... GENERAL PRINCIPLES
BEO GDV analysis of human health, psychology and well being is based on studying information derived from BEO-grams of individual's fingers and, in some cases, toes. .. In 1995, we were able to carry this work forward to a higher level establishing the foundation for a truly scientific stage in Kirlian diagnostics with the introduction of GDV Bioelectrography. This technology is entirely based on modern scientific paradigms. Using special electrode system the approach creates high intensity electric field around an object which produces gas discharge which glow can be seen and measured. The discharge appears independently of the nature of the object, consequently with experimental experience one can cause virtually any object to glow. This could be a nail, a stone or a plant; any biological essence adds its own unique aspect to this glow, changing its brightness, size, and color. The discharge reveals the features of an object which cannot be determined by other techniques, moreover, one can track any small changes which occur. Electrical properties of the object, emission characteristics, gas evaporation, energy exchange with the environment - all these parameters of the object contribute to its glow. All attempts to assign or relate this glow to other factors such as sweating or conductivity alone, after careful analysis, have proven incorrect. For example with complex objects it is possible to determine the influence of different factors such as medicine, type of food, environment, etc. The method reveals complex reaction of an organism to different influences. To analyse human psycho-physiological condition two main analytical approaches are applied: parametric and sector ones. Parametric approach is based on the calculation of BEO-gram parameter, factor and correlation analysis (today the GDV Software calculates more than 30 parameters). Complex analysis usually allows for results of both GDV measurements and other types of measurements (psychological, physiological, and bioelectrogr.aphic). The following main groups of parameters are considered: geometrical, brightness, density, fractal, probability, and entropy parameters. Sector diagnostics is based on a diagnostic table, connecting glow characteristics of separate zones of fingers with the functional state of body zones. For the first time the idea of such connection was proposed by P.Mandel, then it was further developed and modified. The diagnostic table is based on the concepts of traditional Chinese medicine, micro-acupuncture systems and empirical experience. The analysis suggests using notions on Chakras and Ayurvedic medicine. Basing on 10-fingers BEO-grams and the diagnostic table, the model of field distribution around human body is built in the GDV Programs. Independent clinic observations in different countries revealed diagnostic validity of the GDV-technique and, in particular, the model of field distribution - Aura. The method of GDV Bioelectrography is a practical application and a touchstone of the new approach. Although gas discharge images are fluctuating, dynamically changing, they are still probabilistically reproducible. They represent natural application of non-linear mathematics. However, conclusions, made using these methods, should be absolutely concrete and should carry clear information on biological object's state.

GDV Today/ Expeditions / Russian Antarctic Expedition
On March 11th a meeting with Sergey Om, GP of the 48th Russian Antarctic Expedition was held at the office of Dr. Korotkov Co. During 9 months Sergey used a GDV Compact in his medical practice and carried out research on psychophysical state of the winterers.
The experience of using the GDV Compact in Antarctic makes it possible to draw a conclusion that in the extreme conditions of the expedition where a sufficient amount of sophisticated medical diagnostic equipment for carrying out serious tests is missing, the GDV technique ensures a unique control and testing method of the energy state of human systems and organs based on interpretation of GDV-grams.

The reality of psychic phenomena is now no longer based solely upon faith, or wishful thinking, or absorbing anecdotes. It is not even based upon the results of a few scientific experiments. Instead, we know that these phenomena exist because of new ways of evaluating massive amounts of scientific evidence collected over a century by scores of researchers.

Psychic, or "psi" phenomena fall into two general categories. The first is perception of objects or events beyond the range of the ordinary senses. The second is mentally causing action at a distance. In both categories, it seems that intention, the mind’s will, can do things that – according to prevailing scientific theories – it isn’t supposed to be able to do. We wish to know what is happening to loved ones, and somehow, sometimes, that information is available even over large distances. We wish to speed the recovery of a loved one’s illness, and somehow they get better quicker, even at a distance. Mind willing, many interesting things appear to be possible.

Understanding such experiences requires an expanded view of human consciousness. Is the mind merely a mechanistic, information-processing bundle of neurons? Is it a "computer made of meat" as some cognitive scientists and neuroscientists believe? Or is it something more? The evidence suggests that while many aspects of mental functioning are undoubtedly related to brain structure and electrochemical activity, there is also something else happening, something very interesting.

A more elaborate answer is, psi has been shown to exist in thousands of experiments. There are disagreements over to how to interpret the evidence, but the fact is that virtually all scientists who have studied the evidence, including the hard-nosed skeptics, now agree that there is something interesting going on that merits serious scientific attention.

One of the most surprising discoveries of modern physics is that objects aren't as separate as they may seem. When you drill down into the core of even the most solid-looking material, separateness dissolves. These connections were predicted by quantum theory and were called "spooky action at a distance" by Albert Einstein. One of the founders of quantum theory, Erwin Schrödinger, dubbed this peculiarity entanglement, saying "I would not call that one but rather the characteristic trait of quantum mechanics."

Scientists are now finding that there are ways in which the effects of microscopic entanglements "scale up" into our macroscopic world. Entangled connections between carefully prepared atomic-sized objects can persist over many miles. There are theoretical descriptions showing how tasks can be accomplished by entangled groups without the members of the group communicating with each other in any conventional way. Some scientists suggest that the remarkable degree of coherence displayed in living systems might depend in some fundamental way on quantum effects like entanglement. Ley Lines

Ley lines refer to hypothetical alignments of a number of places of geographical interest, such as ancient monuments and megaliths. Their existence was suggested in 1921 by the amateur archaeologist Alfred Watkins, whose book The Old Straight Track brought the alignments to the attention of the wider public.

The existence of alignments between sites is easily demonstrated. However, the causes of these alignments are disputed. There are several major areas of interpretation:

Archaeological: A new area of archaeological study, archaeogeodesy, examines geodesy as practiced in prehistoric time, and as evidenced by archaeological remains. One major aspect of modern geodesy is surveying. As interpreted by geodesy, the so-called ley lines can be the product of ancient surveying, property markings, or commonly travelled pathways. Numerous societies, ancient and modern, employ straight lines between points of use; archaeologists have documented these traditions. Modern surveying also results in placement of constructs in lines on the landscape. It is reasonable to expect human constructs and activity areas to reflect human use of lines.
Cultural: Many cultures use straight lines across the landscape. In South America, such lines often are directed towards mountain peaks; the Nazca lines are a famous example of lengthy lines made by ancient cultures. Straight lines connect ancient pyramids in Mexico; today, modern roads built on the ancient roads deviate around the massive pyramids. The Chaco culture of Northeastern New Mexico cut stairs into sandstone cliffs to facilitate keeping roads straight.

Planetary 'energy' grid theory falls under the heading of pseudoscience. It operates through geometrical patterns that follow a specific symmetry linked to sacred geometry.

Curry Lines

Earth radiation is a theoretical geophysical phenomenon described primarily by the German authors Manfred Curry and Ernst Hartmann.

They both describe a mystic force field (similar to Odic force, Mana, Qi) that covers the earth at regular intervals and can be detected by dowsing using a divining rod. It is not supposed to be detectable by common scientific instruments but some still connect it to telluric currents, which are actual phenomena, detectable by scientific instruments.

Placing people or other living things in certain spots of the earth radiation knots is believed to be beneficial/harmful depending on radiation flow direction. It connects to the Gaia philosophy and vitalist school and is very popular in certain New Age circles in Europe, especially in Germany.

The radiation is described as a grid-like arrangement with lines at regular distances:

Curry lines are supposed to be circa 3 meters apart (with variations), diagonally to the poles, east to west.
Hartmann lines run both east-west and north-south forming a grid across the earths surface with a distance of circa 2 meters in the north-south direction and 2.5 meters in the east-west direction.
Ley lines are man-made energy lines, created by stone formations such as stone ships or other ancient archaeological strucures. The knowledge of creating Ley lines is supposed to be lost.

Some proponents of this theory will also mention Schumann Waves/Resonance (which, like telluric current, is an actual scientifically detectable phenomena) and Black Lines.

Bethe Hagen 2006 Updates

The Becker-Hagens grid cracked the code of the Platonic Solids' positions on Earth.

Becker and Hagens show us how these two shapes were first discovered, and then how they worked into the ultimate Earth Grid, which they called the Unified Vector Geometry 120 Polyhedron, or the UVG 120 Earth Star.

They ascribe this discovery to the work of Ivan P. Sanderson, who was the first to make a case for the structure of the icosahedron at work in the Earth. He did this by locating what he referred to as vile vortices, or areas of the Earth where mysterious disappearances, mechanical failures and time-space distortions were seen to occur.

These 3 scientists worked off of their combined talents to determine this "matrix of cosmic energy" that encircles the Earth. With this new formulation of the Global Grid, Becker and Hagens write:

Becker and Hagens' attention was drawn to this research through the work of Chris Bird, who wrote his article on the "Planetary Grid" in the New Age Journal of May 1975. They were so overwhelmed with this new information that they eventually set up a meeting with him to discuss the work. Soon after this, they "completed" the Grid, making it compatible with all the Platonic Solids, by inserting a creation from Buckminster Fuller's work.

Larger implications.

The extent of invisible or visible lines and harmonies connecting ancient sites and cities have always focused on their connection with areas of increased Earth energy. It is thought that the lines facilitated some aspect of ancient life so that cities and sites built along the same lines shared some mutual benefit. But what was that benefit? Here again there are many theories but no certain answer.

Perhaps the most adventurous explanation is that they involve energy that is now explainable by the String Theory. This relatively new mathematical concept allows for the existence of extra dimensions as well as the idea of passage from one to the other. Perhaps then this energy was not just of some as yet indefinable Earthly advantage but concerned the passage of material on an inter dimensional level.

Theory of Everything.

The String Theory - an astonishing work of scientific deduction, heralded as The Theory of Everything, claims that aside from the three dimensions we know and take for granted lie countless others that may exist remarkably close to us yet remain totally invisible.

These extra dimensions might well represent other and profoundly different forms of life where our own laws of physics are replaced by others that are so much stranger. Under this theory it is even possible there may be other dimensions like our own - a mirror image of this Universe we know and take for granted. But is the String Theory scientifically viable or is it merely a case of Fantasy Mathematics. To answer this lets take a closer look at what the String Theory really says.

Ancient connection.

There is some evidence that ancient societies may have understood the concept of inter dimensional travel far better than we do today. Many of the great ancient sites were set in harmony to each other, along shared lines of Earth energy known as Ley Lines.

It is possible that some property associated with this power and the way it was channelled enabled passage or contact with other dimensions.

We have seen that gravity possesses many strange qualities and perhaps one function of ancient structures like standing stones and circles, possibly even the pyramids, was to harness these properties to facilitate communication or travel with other dimensions.

A Scientific approach
According to data obtained by investigators of ley line theories, some points along the lines possess higher magnetic energy than the average geomagnetic intensity. This data has been published in "Places of power" (Paul Devereux; Blandford Press, 1990) and "Lodestone Compass: Chinese or Olmec Primacy?" (John B. Carlson; Science, 1975).

Theories of magnetic interaction at ley line points suggest to some observers that these points were used to induct energy. Some geomantic researchers have investigated this phenomenon by studying telluric currents, geomagnetism, and the Schumann resonance (among other physical phenomina). Current data is inconclusive.

A sceptical approach
Some skeptics have suggested that ley lines do not exist, and are a product of human fancy. One suggestion is that, given the high density of historic and prehistoric sites in Britain and other parts of Europe, finding straight lines that "connect" sites (usually selected to make them "fit") is trivial, and may be easily ascribed to coincidence. Regarding the trade-route theories, skeptics point out that straight lines do not make ideal roads in all circumstances, particularly where they ignore topography and require users to march up and down hills or mountains, or to cross rivers at points where there is no portage or bridge.

Conclusion
There are many other theories not looked at in this report and it contains only snippets of the original reports. The question remains, are ley lines “remnants of “prehistoric trading routes”, “lines of cosmic energy”, “geometrical lines”, “independent circuitry”, “holy lines”, magical lines? Only the reader can descide what they believe.

From the paranormal investigative standpoint, it would be prudent to note all EMF anomalies, and map where they occur, should the fluctuations occur in a straight line which is only a few feet wide, then research ought to be conducted as to the possibility of the result being caused by ley lines. Whilst investigating places of worship, such as Alvecote Priory, research needs to consider that the ley line could be wider than expected, but again, it would need to be confirmed that the site is located on a ley line.

Intention Can Affect Distant Targets

The first worldwide double-blind experiments to test the power of intention have produced evidence to show that group intention is powerful enough to affect targets more than 5000 miles away. The studies, developed by Lynne McTaggart, author of the best-selling book The Intention Experiment, and a consortium of physicists and other scientists involved in consciousness research, involved thousands of people around the world to send intention to several targets under controlled conditions through the Intention Experiment website (http://www.theintentionexperiment.com).

What have we discovered about intention?
McTaggart and Schwartz believe the very first experiments suggest some extraordinary preliminary hypotheses, which will be fully tested later.

* Intention sent by a group occupying the same room to a target thousands of miles away appears to have a significant effect
* A group of more than 6000 people sending intention from remote sites around the world may create an effect as large as 400 people in the same room — with targets allowing for power analysis.
* For intention to work in a scattered group (as in on-line intention experiments), there may be a threshold effect. We may need to have a critical mass of more than 1000 people to achieve results.
* The strongest effect may be through a coherent group effect, where the intenders occupy the same physical space.

How the tests happened
The first tests, developed by leading psychologist Dr. Gary Schwartz and his team at the Center for Advances in Consciousness and Health at the University of Arizona, examined whether intention could alter the tiny light — called biophoton emissions —emitted from living things.
The tiniest change in the organism can be controlled for and measured through the use of highly sensitive CCD cameras, ordinarily used to record and photograph the faint light of outer space.

The first target chosen was a simple geranium leaf.
“We wanted to start from the ground floor,” says McTaggart. “First we had to establish that we could have an effect – any effect. This type of study would enable us to record every single hair’s breath of difference – even by a single photon.”

The little leaf that glowed
The first experiment was carried out using the attendees of a conference held by McTaggart’s publishing company in London on March 11. The 400 delegates were asked to send intention to increase the light emissions of a geranium leaf at the University of Arizona — to make the leaf ‘glow and glow’.

The University of Arizona’s lab had prepared two matched leaves with similar biophoton releases, one to act as the control. Images of each leaf were simultaneously sent via the internet from Tucson to London. The audience flipped a coin to choose which leaf to send intention to, and the scientists were only told which one after the experiment was concluded.

While meditative music played, the audience sent intention to the leaf to ‘glow and glow’ for 10 minutes. After the intention period, the leaves were placed in the light-tight biophoton imaging system (the super-cooled digital CCD camera system) and photographed for two hours.

The results astonished the scientists. “The results of the glowing intention were so strong that they could readily be seen in the digital biophoton images,” said Dr. Schwartz, who analyzed the leaf compared to the control. “In addition, the increased biophoton effect was highly statistically significant.”

The results from this first exploratory experiment are currently being prepared for scientific publication.

Results : The little leaf that glowed

In March and April of this year, we began our large-scale computer experiments, with Dr. Schwartz’s University of Arizona team. Unlike our experiment with Dr. Popp, we decided to have a target plus an identical control. The scientists would not be told which target we’d sent intention to until after they’d analyzed the results. Our first experiment was carried out at a London Conference on March 11, where 400 of our attendees sent intention to increase the light emissions of a geranium leaf at the University of Arizona. Our intention was to make the leaf ‘glow and glow’.

The results were highly significant, compared to the control — so much so that the difference can be seen on photographs taken by the lab’s special CCD imaging systems.
Technical glitches

According to Dr. Schwartz: “The beans were in the predicted direction, but the results did not reach statistical significance. However, there were only 12 beans per condition (glow versus control). If it was possible to image twice as many beans, the results would have reached statistical significance (this is called power analysis in statistics).”

Internet experiments:
For the next experiment on April 14, McTaggart asked her internet audience to send ‘glow’ intention to seeds of stringbeans. Some 7000 participants from 30 countries around the world participated in the experiment. The bean experiment showed a strong 'glow effect', but not in terms of statistical significance — largely because of the limitations of the imaging equipment.

Results of the first three experiments
The Intention Experiment has run six intention experiments so far – with extraordinary results about the power of intention. We’ve demonstrated that intention from a group scattered around the globe can affect living light — in everything from algae and leaves to human beings.

We’ve also shown that intention can help plants to grow faster. In our latest experiment, we sent intention to barley seeds and showed that our intention caused them to germinate faster and grow taller than three sets of controls.

Living light
All our early experiments have designed by and carried out at the laboratories of Dr. Fritz Albert Popp at the International Institute of Biophysics in Neuss, Germany and Dr. Gary Schwartz at the University of Arizona’s Laboratory for Advances in Consciousness and Health.

Our first experiments examined the alteration in the tiny light — called biophoton emissions — being emitted from living things. We chose to look at this tiny current of light, because it is infinitely more subtle than, say, cellular growth rate. Popp has a number of extremely sensitive photocount detectors at his disposal, and Dr. Schwartz uses highly sensitive CCD cameras, which record and photograph the faint light of outer space. This type of ultrasensitive equipment would enable us to record every single hair’s breath of difference – even by a single photon – and so determine the extent of our influence.
Jade plants, algae and human beings

For our pilot intention experiment, we asked 15 experienced meditators in London to send positive intention to four targets at Popp’s IIB laboratory in Germany: two types of algae, a Jade plant and a human volunteer.

In our experimental design, we aimed for an ‘on off, on off’ effect, so that we could isolate any changes as being caused by remote influence. Our group sent intention intermittently at regular intervals: 10 minutes on, then 10 minutes off over several hours. If our experiment worked and intention did have an effect, once we plotted our result on a graph it would create an identifiable, zigzag effect.

After analyzing the data, Popp’s team found that in the light was profoundly altered.
These results exactly match those Popp’s team had observed during a study of healers, when they’d tested whether the act of healing has a ‘scatter effect’ on any other living things in the environment where the healing takes place.

Future Intention Experiments
Global warming: the next experiment
McTaggart’s ‘global laboratory’ is now moving on to a ‘mini-Gaia’. The University of Arizona is constructing a little terrarium, and in early July the Intention Experiment website will carry out the first study to examine whether intention can lower the temperature. “If we find we have a significant effect, the implications of it — that our collective thoughts could tackle global warming — will be extraordinary,” she says.

McTaggart is also gearing up for the first human studies, carried out with British biologist Rupert Sheldrake and America’s leading parapsychologist Dean Radin from the Institute of Noetic Sciences. She and Russian physicist Konstantin Korotkov are also designing experiments to test whether intention can purify water, and she and Dr. Schwartz are considering ‘germination’ studies, where the intenders will be asked to send intention to influence germination of seeds.

According to Geophysicists, the world is headed for a catastrophe in terms of earthquakes between now and 2012. The reason behind unprecedented levels of massive earthquakes is human hands, simultaneous terrestrial and solar polar reversals and abnormal solar flares. The Sun is in some kind of million-year cycle. The earth is just too hot with massive amount of solar flares hitting the earth continuously. This will continue between now and 2012 – till the simultaneous solar and terrestrial polar reversals are complete.

The seismic activities can be so large that catastrophe can occur in every continent. The plates are getting brittle, the temperature is rising all over the world and polar shifts in the earth are accelerating. The Sun is extremely active these days. That is a major reason for worry.

Human activities are creating possible trigger points.

Construction of a reservoir, hydrocarbon production, or the injection of fluids into the ground triggers an earthquake at a specific location. Several well-documented cases exist where such large engineering projects and damaging earthquakes are genetically related. In most of these cases, the engineering projects themselves most likely did not create the stresses that caused the earthquake, but rather changed local conditions in such a way as to allow an earthquake to occur. The difference between inducing an earthquake and triggering an earthquake is subtle but important; generally, human activity will not create enough stress in the underlying rocks to cause an earthquake large enough to be recorded by distant seismographs. However, the activity can change the physical conditions at depth and thus allow an earthquake to occur.

The different activities that can trigger or induce earthquakes include impounding of deep artificial water reservoirs, underground mining, large-scale surface quarrying, high pressure fluid injection, removal of subterranean fluids for hydrocarbon production, and underground explosions. For example, reservoir-induced seismicity has been documented in China, central Africa, Greece, India, Egypt, Russia, Italy, South Carolina, Arizona, and California (Oroville Reservoir). The first well documented example occurred when Lake Mead, formed by Hoover Dam on the Colorado River, began filling in the late 1930's. The largest and most damaging reservoir-induced earthquake occurred on December 10, 1967, at Koyna, India (M 6.3), and claimed over 200 lives while destroying much of the Koyna Nagar town.

Pumping fluids into the ground at high pressure plays a major role in geothermal power generation, oil production, solution mining, and hazardous waste disposal. The first well-documented case of triggered seismicity due to fluid injection occurred at the Rocky Mountain Arsenal near Denver, Colorado during the early 1960's, where there was no previously recorded seismicity. Following these earthquakes, a fluid-injection experiment carried out in Rangely, Colorado, in a producing oil field proved that injecting high pressure fluids into geologic formations under the right conditions of stress could trigger earthquakes.

Magnetic Fields, The Sun, and TMS

In more ways than one would have imagined. Here I will layout the latest research in what medical science has learned about the influence of magnetic flux or fields. Our ancestors knew there was a connection between the Sun and other celestial events such as GRBs (gamma ray burst) and its effect on us.

Many mental illnesses can be demonstrated to stem from the abnormal behavior of particular brain regions, in much the same way that diabetes is the result of malfunctioning cells in the pancreas. It is believed that some mental disorders are the result of nerve cells being over or under excitable (in other words, it is too easy or too difficult for them to "fire" and work properly). In this context, successful psychiatric treatment is achieved by modifying these cells' behavior. The range of effects produced by TMS is a clear indication of its potential to work in this way.

.....My studies continue in showing a correlation between solar and celestial activity i.e. solar flares, coronal mass ejections and gamma ray burst, and a distinct fluctuation in human and animal behavior.

Activity-dependent modulation of cortical synaptic transmission is a fundamental mechanism involved in learning and memory storage. This modulation has been widely studied in vitro brain slices and in vivo animal models. More recently, transcranial magnetic stimulation has allowed detection of activity-dependent excitability modulation occurring in the intact human primary motor cortex (MI) after execution of different kinds of motor tasks. Both increased and decreased MI excitability have been described after exercise. While increased MI excitability is generally considered direct expression of cortical synaptic plasticity, a controversy still exists as to whether decreased MI excitability reflects fatigue of central nervous system (CNS) structures or cortical neuronal reorganization taking place after exercise.

The Earth Energy Field:

Imbalance and Disease
Through these meridians flows the life force or chi … an invisible nutritious energy. The Power of Thoughts, Words, Actions The Power of Attraction

We are energetic beings. Similarly our thoughts, words, and actions are energetic expressions. Our thoughts are powerful expressions of energy. Our thoughts and the thoughts of others affect us and other life forms.

Dr.Cleve Backster conducted his famous experiments using plants and simple animals like shrimp. Backster showed scientifically that the house plants in his laboratory were influenced by the thoughts of people. When Backster thought about cutting or killing a plant, that plant plus all the other plants in the room reacted with fear. He recorded and measured this reaction of the power of thoughts with the equivalent of a lie detector.

Daily the scientist left the room to go to lunch. After eating, when he just thought about returning to the laboratory, the equipment recorded a spike in the fear of the plants at the same time. Thoughts projected by Backster were instantly communicated to his plants even though they were miles apart.

Later in 1995, based on the effects of human intention on plants, Backster was asked to design an experiment for the U.S. Army to conduct on human DNA. These experiments showed that DNA taken from the donor’s mouth and nurtured in a Petri plate in the next room exhibited the same reactions to emotions stimulated in the subject’s body a few hundred feet away. Again the result was instantaneous.

After the Army stopped their experiments, Dr. Backster continued to increase the distance between the donor and his DNA in the Petri dish. Even when 350 miles apart, the separated DNA and the DNA in the donor reacted the same way instantly as measured by an atomic clock in Colorado. The energy of the thoughts, and the emotions, or feelings transmitted instantaneously.

Remember that every living creature, including humankind, is an energetic being, as is the Universal Field, Consciousness, The Source of All, the Divine Matrix, or God. The polar reversal in the Sun and a million year cycle are creating huge solar flares. Earth’s magnetosphere is resisting as much as possible. The solar wind in the form of electromagnetic storm is harmful in many ways. But scientists are wondering if it can cause an amazing effect around 2012 when the solar wind will peak. There is a possibility that we will experience out of body experience by 2012. It will depend on the intensity of the solar storms experienced by the earth and how much earth’s magnetosphere can protect us. If the solar storm is excessive, then our consciousness will float out of our bodies by 2012.

An electromagnetic storm is an intense phenomenon where a region of the universe experiences a very strong electromagnetic field. This is most analogous to a rainstorm. Normal rain poses no threat, but can be incredibly dangerous in heavy amounts. The same applies to electromagnetic fields. In small amounts, electromagnetic fields will not cause noticeable disruption to electronic systems. However, in large amounts, they can cause charged particles (for example, in wires) to feel a significant force, moving them. Since wires aren''t usually free to move, the flow of electrons can become extremely disrupted. This can also be extremely hazardous for delicate systems, such as those found on sensitive electronic equipments sensitive to these disruptions.

The Earth's magnetic field is in 10s of microteslas, which doesn''t cause significant problems to existing systems. Electromagnetic storms are rated in the magnitude of milliteslas or whole teslas. With wires, such intense fields can only be felt within extreme proximity to the wire with an incredible amount of current. Such close proximity could allow electrons to "jump" from the wire to whatever was nearby (as they do in spark plugs), and the amount of current would be fatal to humans.

It is possible, intense solar wind will cause us to feel out body experiences. The life forms in the universe are Zero Point Energy Modules (ZPEM) and are electromagnetic in nature with specific vibration sequences. The extreme solar storms from the Sun can cause the ZPEMs in the earth to lose its natural bonding to the body as their natural frequency of vibration will be disturbed.

In that case we will experience for a year or so something amazing – out of body experiences. Hopefully, nothing of that will happen. The solar wind may not go that intense and the magnetosphere of the earth will be able to protect us.

If our consciousness float out of our bodies by 2012 for a temporary period of a few years, all living beings will be less concerned with the material world and focus more on the spiritual needs. The world may actually become a very peaceful place.

Magnetism Affects the Human Brain

Electromagnetic fields are an inescapable fact of life. From birth to death, we are bathed in the Earth's all-encompassing field, and our technology adds to this with ubiquitous electrical appliances and power lines. Yet the question remains as to whether human beings can actually sense magnetic fields and, if so, what effect they might have. Now an international group of researchers has measured a distinct physiological response in human brains exposed to a magnetic field.

The research group, which includes neurosurgeon Hans Wieser of Zurich, Jon Paul Dobson of the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology, and Michael Fuller of the University of California (Santa Barbara), came together when Fuller's sabbatical took him to Zurich as part of his continuing studies of Earth's changing magnetic field. There he met Wieser, a specialist in the treatment of epileptics who do not respond to drug treatment. In such patients, the only way to stop the electrical storms responsible for their seizures is to surgically remove small portions of the brain which generate the seizures. To localize this region precisely, electrodes were implanted directly into the patient's brain. Then the researchers waited for seizures to occur spontaneously so that they could pinpoint the culprit area, and thus remove the smallest amount of tissue possible.

The effects of external magnetic fields on the human brain are normally so small they are lost in the much larger ambient electromagnetic fluctuations. They are virtually impossible to detect outside the cranium. But in this case, magnetic fields could be applied to the brain and measured from within. Consequently the chances of detecting an effect were much larger and more immediate. This procedure thus worked to benefit both patients and scientific research. The research group enclosed each patient's head in a coil which could generate a magnetic field of 1 to 2 milliteslas, about 100 times stronger than Earth's and nearly the strength of fields around ordinary household appliances. The patients responded with multiple bursts of epileptiform activity recorded from the implanted electrodes, thus demonstrating that magnetic fields are capable of directly affecting the human brain.

Although the unusual population and small sample size do not permit generalizations, the recent revelation that the human brain contains millions of tiny magnetic particles (see Noetic Sciences Review, "Science Notes", Autumn 1992) makes this observation on human magnetoreception all the more intriguing.

Revealing Magnetic Interactions from Single-Atom Magnetization Curves

The miniaturization of magnetic devices toward the limit ofsingle atoms calls for appropriate tools to study their magneticproperties. We demonstrate the ability to measure magnetizationcurves of individual magnetic atoms adsorbed on a nonmagneticmetallic substrate with use of a scanning tunneling microscopewith a spin-polarized tip. We can map out low-energy magneticinteractions on the atomic scale as evidenced by the oscillatingindirect exchange between a Co adatom and a nanowire on Pt(111).These results are important for the understanding of variationsthat are found in the magnetic properties of apparently identicaladatoms because of different local environments.

As we move about the planetary surface in our daily activities, we are generally unaware of the vast information exchange occurring within our human body structure and of how our individual minds continually communicate with the planetary, stellar, galactic and cosmic Mind. When simultaneous electromagnetic measurements are performed for the detection of brainwave signals and for the detection of the Earth and atmospheric activity, it is found that there are many synchronous frequencies detected.

...Notice as we take a long slow inhalation, hold, and then a long slow exhalation; observe that our whole body structure is in rhythmical motion. Let's watch this breathing motion once again and place our attention on its process. Each breath stimulates a bipolar, electromagnetic field across the upper body by causing stress within the crystalline rib-cage. We are experiencing a Grand Cycle where our solar system is moving to a new place in the universe with more available light and energy. Many refer to this as the photon belt. Russian research has proven the leading edge of our heliosphere is glowing with up to a thousand times more light as we move into this highly charged area. The planets within our solar system are also emitting up to three times more light and are all undergoing atmospheric changes. Our sun is also changing. What once was a yellow orange sun is now white. The hydrogen helium mixture is changing and the mega solar cycle with its unprecedented CMEs, coronal mass ejections and solar flares has continued to increase far beyond any 11 year cycle. In fact a whole new cycle is starting in 2007 which will be much more intense than the last solar cycle. Scientists are expecting to loose many of their satellites, even more severe weather, and an increase in number and severity in tornadoes and hurricanes.

How does this affect the Earth? When the Earth is hit by a CME or solar flare the first affects are the bioelectric fields around the physical embodiment. Stanford Research has proven when monkeys were exposed to changes in the magnetic fields they exhibited behavior from comatose to self mutilation. We are experiencing massive shifts in the magnetic fields which reverberate when hit by a CME or solar flare.

...These social changes are followed by erratic weather, an increase in tornado and hurricane activity along with a warming up or drought in some places and a cooling down or floods and freezes in others. The jet streams are also affected which move the weather patterns which in turn affect crop production. What once grew in some places will grow in others. Deserts will bloom etc. As the energy is absorbed through the poles the Earth begins to overheat. The overheating causes pressure which has to be released through volcanoes and earthquakes. When you add the greenhouse effect caused by man made emissions we aggravate this cycle causing more heat to be trapped within the system. The undersea volcanoes are heating up the oceans creating changes in the ocean currents. Changes in the ocean currents create changes in the weather and climate of whole continents. The massive storm and cloud cover along with volcanic eruptions creates a natural shielding effect. It is the Earths way of defending herself and adjusting to the new energies.

Recent space satellite studies show that worrying cracks have begun to appear in Earth’s magnetic field.
But should we be concerned, and could these cracks be signs of a Polar Reversal?
Latest research and observations from NASA's IMAGE space craft and the joint NASA/European Space Agency Cluster satellites have shown the development of huge cracks in the Earth’s magnetic field. According to the observations there are periods when the magnetic field just peels away over massive areas to expose our atmosphere to the full brunt of solar radiation.

The Problems.
Cracks to the Magnetic Field are bound to pose problems for space satellites, radio communication, and all manner of electrical systems. But what are the implications for life on the planet and in particular the people that inhabit it?

Reassuring voices say our atmosphere is capable of dealing with this flood of Solar particles and filtering them out. However some effects - most noticeably concerning weather - are bound to be felt and it is worth noting that the energy from the Sun is never constant. For instance one recent flare eruption broke all records, and it is possible that the combination of a massive Solar Flare in conjunction with a crack in the Magnetic Field could result in harmful exposure to solar rays on the surface of the planet. If this exposure was maintained over a long enough period crops could fail, animals would die, and humans fall prone to deadly cancers.

The latest observations cite data showing some cracks in the magnetic field last for longer than nine hours. If so the likely consequences would depend on the actual strength of the Solar Wind at that time.

Polar Reversal.
In many respects magnetic cracking is cause for concern because it might well indicate an imminent Polar Reversal. These amazing events involving the magnetic reversal of the Earth’s poles - some say even the geographic poles - have occurred roughly once every three quarters of a millions years and scientists say the next one is long overdue. One prominent sign we may be headed for a reversal is that over the last century or so the Earth’s Magnetic Field has been steadily diminishing. Amongst other things it is probably this that is also responsible for the recent cracks in the Magnetic Field.

Geomagnetic storm
A geomagnetic storm is a temporary disturbance of the Earth's magnetosphere caused by a disturbance in space weather. Associated with solar coronal mass ejections (CME), coronal holes, or solar flares, a geomagnetic storm is caused by a solar wind shock wave which typically strikes the Earth's magnetic field 24 to 36 hours after the event. This only happens if the shock wave travels in a direction toward Earth. The solar wind pressure on the magnetosphere will increase or decrease depending on the Sun's activity. These solar wind pressure changes modify the electric currents in the ionosphere. Magnetic storms usually last 24 to 48 hours, but some may last for many days. In 1989, an electromagnetic storm disrupted power throughout most of Quebec ^[1] — it caused auroras as far south as Texas ^[2]

Biology

There is a growing body of evidence that changes in the geomagnetic field affect biological systems. Studies indicate that physically stressed human biological systems may respond to fluctuations in the geomagnetic field. Interest and concern in this subject have led the International Union of Radio Science to create a new commission entitled Commission K - Electromagnetics in Biology and Medicine [1] Current chair Dr. Frank Prato[2].

  According to Geophysicists, the world is headed for a catastrophe in terms of earthquakes between now and 2012. The reason behind unprecedented levels of massive earthquakes is human hands, simultaneous terrestrial and solar polar reversals and abnormal solar flares. The Sun is in some kind of million-year cycle. The earth is just too hot with massive amount of solar flares hitting the earth continuously. This will continue between now and 2012 – till the simultaneous solar and terrestrial polar reversals are complete.
  The seismic activities can be so large that catastrophe can occur in every continent. The plates are getting brittle, the temperature is rising all over the world and polar shifts in the earth are accelerating. The Sun is extremely active these days. That is a major reason for worry.
  Human activities are creating possible trigger points.
  Construction of a reservoir, hydrocarbon production, or the injection of fluids into the ground triggers an earthquake at a specific location. Several well-documented cases exist where such large engineering projects and damaging earthquakes are genetically related. In most of these cases, the engineering projects themselves most likely did not create the stresses that caused the earthquake, but rather changed local conditions in such a way as to allow an earthquake to occur. The difference between inducing an earthquake and triggering an earthquake is subtle but important; generally, human activity will not create enough stress in the underlying rocks to cause an earthquake large enough to be recorded by distant seismographs. However, the activity can change the physical conditions at depth and thus allow an earthquake to occur.
  The different activities that can trigger or induce earthquakes include impounding of deep artificial water reservoirs, underground mining, large-scale surface quarrying, high pressure fluid injection, removal of subterranean fluids for hydrocarbon production, and underground explosions. For example, reservoir-induced seismicity has been documented in China, central Africa, Greece, India, Egypt, Russia, Italy, South Carolina, Arizona, and California (Oroville Reservoir). The first well documented example occurred when Lake Mead, formed by Hoover Dam on the Colorado River, began filling in the late 1930's. The largest and most damaging reservoir-induced earthquake occurred on December 10, 1967, at Koyna, India (M 6.3), and claimed over 200 lives while destroying much of the Koyna Nagar town.
  Pumping fluids into the ground at high pressure plays a major role in geothermal power generation, oil production, solution mining, and hazardous waste disposal. The first well-documented case of triggered seismicity due to fluid injection occurred at the Rocky Mountain Arsenal near Denver, Colorado during the early 1960's, where there was no previously recorded seismicity. Following these earthquakes, a fluid-injection experiment carried out in Rangely, Colorado, in a producing oil field proved that injecting high pressure fluids into geologic formations under the right conditions of stress could trigger earthquakes.

  January 10, 2008 Huntsville, Alabama - One month ago on December 11, 2007, a patch of magnetism on the sun was declared by NASA to be the first official sunspot of the new Solar Cycle 24. The spot was in a high-latitude on the sun with reversed polarity from the previous Solar Cycle 23 that has been in minimum for a long time. The sun has had a blank face without any sunspots for days and weeks at a time. But from now forward to 2012, sunspots should start appearing again all over the sun, leading up to what NASA astrophysicist, David Hathaway, Ph.D., thinks will be one of the more intense solar maximums on record. Dr. Hathaway is the Solar Physics Team Leader at NASA’s Marshall Space Flight Center in Huntsville, Alabama. He received his Ph.D. in astrophysics from the University of Colorado in Boulder in 1979.
  
  Dr. Hathaway is now one of the top solar astrophysicists in the world. He was surprised last week in the beginning of January 2008, to learn that his own solar physics research was being used by a non-scientist named John Casey in an Orlando, Florida company calling itself “Space and Science Research Center.” SSRC recently distributed an alarming press release on the internet entitled “Changes in the Sun’s Surface to Bring Next Climate Change.” The press release warned there will be a global food shortage in the next Solar Cycle 25 (approximately 2018 - 2029).
  
  This week I talked with Dr. Hathaway about the press release and his own perceptions about what’s expected in this current Solar Cycle 24 and beyond.

  David Hathaway, Ph.D., Solar Physics Team Leader, NASA’s Marshall Space Flight Center, Huntsville, Alabama: “In the beginning of the cycle, it’s a little like popping popcorn where first one spot will come out and then you wait. Then there is another - bam, bam, bam! And off it goes, the cycle is on its way.
  
  We’re expecting this cycle will start rising in the next few months and should reach its maximum in about 2011 to 2012 time frame. Of course, the solar maximum is an extended period – one to two years at least where the sun is particularly active, compared to where we are now. We’ve gone for days and weeks at a time without any sunspots at all.

  During solar maximum, we should see lots of spots on the sun. Even the low predictions for this Cycle 24 indicate that at maximum there ought to be on any given day at least 70 or 80 spots on the sun.
  
  THE LAST TIME WE TALKED, THERE WAS DISPUTE ABOUT WHETHER THIS WAS GOING TO BE A REALLY INTENSE “X-CLASS” SOLAR FLARE MAXIMUM IN THE 2011, 2012, 2013 TIME PERIOD? OR WILL IT BE REALLY MILD? IS THE SCIENTIFIC EXPECTATION ON THIS NOW ANY CLEARER?
  
  Unfortunately, no. (laughs) We continue to do research and it really comes down to two models and two different techniques for predicting the size of the next cycle, both of which agreed on the last Cycle 23, but disagree on this Cycle 24. We really have not gotten to the bottom of it yet.
  
  DO YOU STILL EXPECT IT TO BE A VERY INTENSE CYCLE 24 SOLAR MAXIMUM?
  
  I’m still sticking with it, that’s right. There are a number of indicators that suggest Solar Cycle 24 Maximum should be a big cycle, and there is a model out there that has shown to be extremely accurate in going back in time to predict the last eight cycles. That model can do it better than any of the other techniques out there and suggests that this upcoming solar maximum should be a much bigger solar cycle than average.

The story

Some 220 square miles of ice has collapsed in Antarctica and an ice shelf about seven times the size of Manhattan is "hanging by a thread," the British Antarctic Survey said Tuesday, blaming global warming.

"We are in for a lot more events like this," said professor Ted Scambos, a glaciologist at the National Snow and Ice Data Center at the University of Colorado at Boulder.

Scambos alerted the British Antarctic Survey after he noticed part of the Wilkins ice shelf disintegrating on February 28, when he was looking at NASA satellite images.

A little more than a year and a half into its primary mission, NASA's CloudSat satellite, working in tandem with the other Earth-observing satellites in NASA's "A-Train," is now yielding a treasure trove of new data that are helping scientists better understand the enormous influence clouds have on Earth's weather, climate and energy balance. Researchers present results that include discovery of a link between observed decreases in polar clouds last summer and a corresponding loss of Arctic sea ice; surprising new global estimates of how frequently clouds rain over Earth's oceans that suggest the need to reassess the intensity of Earth's water cycle and its impact on climate models; and the first global evidence that the small aerosol particles in our atmosphere may be polluting clouds, making them more reflective.

GREENBELT, Md. - NASA's AIM satellite has provided the first global-scale, full-season view of iridescent polar clouds that form 50 miles above Earth’s surface.

The Aeronomy of Ice in the Mesosphere (AIM) mission is the first satellite dedicated to the study of these noctilucent or "night-shining" clouds. They are called "night shining" clouds by observers on the ground because their high altitude allows them to continue reflecting sunlight after the sun has set below the horizon. AIM has provided the first global-scale view of the clouds over the entire 2007 Northern Hemisphere season with an unprecedented horizontal resolution of 3 miles by 3 miles.

Very little is known about these 'clouds at the edge of space', also called Polar Mesospheric Clouds. How do they form over the summer poles, why are they being seen at lower latitudes than ever before, and why have they been growing brighter and more frequent? During its mission lifetime, AIM will observe a total of two complete polar mesospheric cloud seasons in each polar region, documenting for the first time the entire complex life cycle of Polar Mesospheric Clouds.

Cymatics - Church Architecture

The symbols carved into the ceiling of Rosslyn Chapel in Midlothian, Scotland, have been the marvel of historians for many generations. The Knights Templar founded Rosslyn Chapel in 1477. The chapel's history and legend claim that it has reverently housed some of the most precious religious and historical artifacts passed down from the ages, including the Ark of the Covenant, the real Stone of Destiny, the heart of Robert Bruce, and the head of Jesus Christ. There are 213 cubes in its architecture, all embellished with symbols that are believed to be ancient musical notations of melodies that were spiritually significant to the people in that 15th-century town.

Currently, a select group of eight scientists and musical experts are trying to decipher the symbols engraved on these cubes. It is believed that the vibrations representing each musical note were first visually created by covering a thin brass plate with sand and then strumming a musical note with a bow placed against the plate. The visual representation of the musical note could then be seen in the distinctive patterns that the vibrations of that note created in the shifted sand.

To capture and record the notes of their music for posterity, experts feel, stonemasons copied these sand patterns, carving them onto the cubes. In this way, the musical melody played at religious ceremonies in the building could be recorded for the ages.

Warwick Edwards, a specialist in Medieval and Renaissance music from Glasgow University, believes that the sculptures on the cubes may actually be an ancient way of recording music. Stephen Prior, an author and historian, researching the history of Rosslyn, has come to the conclusion that these musical notations represent a healing chant from the Middle Ages.

Thesis title:Mapping Pliocene-Pleistocene seismic sequences in the Victoria Land Basin, Antarctica.
Project aim: To process and interpret new and existing seismic reflection data on the Ross Ice Shelf, adjacent to Ross Island, Antarctica.

Context of Research: Climate Change
Dhiresh was responding to:
John Mercer 1978- Prediction of 5-6m sea level rise
Milankovitch Cycles and Glaciation
Plus human influence

Base Data: marine seismic testing in McMurdo Sound
Seismic testing was to establish where sediment was well preserved
- not effected by ice advancing and receding in which sediment would be stripped
this stripping=stripping of "data" - like missing tree rings

Dhiresh classified his data as static - it could not be "strung together as moving snapshots"
It would also need to be stripped to be made user - friendly
Strong relationships could be made between seismic and the ice core data
The ice core reflected a 10cm record going back millions of years
The seismic data had ramification's for kms
the context was enlarged by other larger projects collecting seismic records in the basin (not just on the ice)

Marcia proposes visualizations of data through changing elevations
Dhiresh saw it through advancing receding coastline

Dhiresh is going to inform Peter Nash of the project and see what other data is available.
It is open to assist but is going overseas in the new year.

The larger aim of the Drilling on Ross Shelf is to understand how the Ross Shelf is behaving. So the pool of data - could involved: ice melt; temp; carbon - dioxide etc.

Introduction

AutoDRM is an email-based request tool for seismic data collected by the GeoNet project from broadband instruments of the New Zealand National Seismograph Network, the regional networks' (mainly) short-period seismometers, and the national strong motion network accelerographs. Request emails are to be addressed to autodrm @ geonet.org.nz. The station codes may be viewed on the network maps, and the site locations and operational dates may be found in DELTA.

Data Formats

The GeoNet AutoDRM supports three data formats for the extraction of waveforms; GSE2.0, SEED, and miniSEED. Data may be requested in these formats by supplying one of the following arguments to the WAVEFORM parameter of the request email: GSE2.0, SEED, MSEED.

If the global consumption of fossil fuels continues to grow at its present rate, atmospheric CO2 content will double in about 50 years. Climatic models suggest that the resultant greenhouse-warming effect will be greatly magnified in high latitudes. The computed temperature rise at lat 80° S could start rapid deglaciation of West Antarctica, leading to a 5 m rise in sea level.

Cryospheric research within the Branch addresses the physics of ice sheets and glaciers, sea ice, snow on ice and land, and their roles in the global climate system. Laboratory technology efforts develop new approaches to remote sensing measurements of critical physical processes. Previous Laboratory research, which led to the TOPEX/Poseidon mission, has now led also to Goddard leadership of the ICESat/GLAS altimeter—including present Laboratory support of GLAS data processing—plus ice sheet altimetry, the Mars Orbiting Laser Altimeter (MOLA), and our strong airborne ice topography validation program. We expect these activities to continue.

Despite problems with the instrument, ICESat has produced stunning results that extend well beyond the planned polar ice sheet program goals to include sea ice measurements and new applications to Earth topology and even land water run-off and forest height measurements. For the Laboratory, Goddard and NASA, this is an on-going development of highest priority with broad, across-the-board application for Earth science needs and we expect Laboratory staff to assist with a long-lifetime, advanced-laser ICESat follow-on mission proposal.

His recent research includes leading a comprehensive analysis of the mass balance of the Greenland and Antarctic ice sheets and ice shelves, the discovery of the melt-acceleration effect on the flow of the Greenland ice sheet, and the first comprehensive mapping of sea ice freeboard and thickness distributions.

Since 1979, he has been a leading scientist promoting satellite laser altimetry for ice sheet mass balance studies, leading to the launch of the Ice Cloud and Land Elevation Satellite (ICESat) in 2003. Currently, he is the ICESat Project Scientist and a member of the science teams for the Geoscience Laser Altimeter System (GLAS), the Mars Orbiting Laser Altimeter (MOLA), and ENVISAT and CRYOSAT Calibration/Validation.

The Geoscience Laser Altimeter System (GLAS) is the sole instrument on the Ice, Cloud, and land Elevation Satellite (ICESat). The main objective of the ICESat mission is to measure ice sheet elevations and changes in elevation through time. Secondary objectives include measurement of cloud and aerosol height profiles, land elevation and vegetation cover, and sea ice thickness. ICESat will enable scientists to study the Earth's climate and, ultimately, predict how ice sheets and sea level will respond to future climate change.

ICESat has a near-circular and near-polar 91-day orbit with a 33-day repeat cycle, at an altitude of approximately 600 km, providing global coverage between 86°N and 86°S.

The National Snow and Ice Data Center (NSIDC) archives and distributes 15 products, including Levels 1A, 1B, and 2 laser altimetry and atmospheric lidar data. The initial data stream is approximately 20 GB per day.
